The members of the Department of Negotiation and Mediation at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin launched the Arbitration and Mediation Centre (CAM) in 2014. It was established in cooperation with Poland’s Ministry of Economy. CAM also cooperates with the Ministry of Justice, local representations of attorneys-at-law, advocates, the National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution, courts, mediation coordinators, as well as business institutions and public administration bodies. CAM is run by employees of the Department of Negotiation and Mediation.

The main task of CAM is to support and assist entrepreneurs and individuals in resolving business, family, civil and criminal disputes with amicable methods, preventing court action. The aim is to relieve the burden on the justice system, to create legal awareness and social culture based on the amicable settlement of disputes, as well as to support the materially deprived by providing free legal counselling in resolving disputes amicably through  mediation.

CAM’s areas of activity:

  1. mediation in court and out-of-court referrals
  2. certification of mediators in civil and commercial matters (competences granted by the Ministry of Justice)
  3. post-graduate studies and training in mediation
  4. cooperation with Lublin City Hall within a mediation network consisting of universities, public administration entities, courts, local representations of attorneys-at-law and advocates, business support institutions, and entrepreneurs.
  5. cooperation with mediation centres in Poland and abroad.

The mission of the Centre for Arbitration and Mediation is to support and help entrepreneurs solve disputes related to all types of their activity with the use of the methods of amicable dispute resolution. Also, the mission covers creating and allowing access to the mechanisms of preventing, minimizing and solving disputes, so as to reduce the risk of disputes or eliminate the negative impact of their emergence.
